whew! that’s all i’ve got to say about thanksgiving this year. it was a true whirlwind o’ travel and food!
we made it up to sheffield, massachusetts to spend the holiday with carter’s family. his aunt ann has an amazing 1817 home with a red, red barn and 3 horses for admiring. of course, razzle dazzle, the barn cat was o’s favorite new friend.
luckily, the traveling part went really well…minus a few blips along the way! aunt ann gave us the scenic tour directions from the hartford, ct airport, but instead of “oohs! and ahhs!” there was a lot of “you were supposed to go left!” eventually, we made it and we’re so glad we did!
(o was so cozy warm bundled up she didn’t seem to care her gloves kept twisting around thumbside up!)
(so what would a kid want to do on a huge chunk of land with horses & cats to pet, barns to explore, and mud to stomp through…yes, play with her great aunt’s exercise ball. duh!)
(we also took plenty of quiet time to sit in front of the fire. i got out my girl scouts’ skillz and built a couple myself. girls rock!)
(o’s dress was a handmade smocked number we found in bath, maine…it fit perfectly although it made crawling a little hard!)
(this is turkey lurkey. he’s about 100 years old, literally, and is a paper mache turkey that holds treats for everyone. you pull a ribbon and out comes a surprise. if you don’t like what you get you can try and trade. o got a finger puppet, carter picked a deck of cards and i traded a scented candle for an italian toothpick holder. o’s favorite treat was a plastic pig you squeeze to make poop come out of its butt…not sure why no one else wanted that one?!)
(o: “hmm…antique bells? yeah, i can think of something to do with them.”)
(chilling with her gramps)
(we decided to go light the day after thanksgiving and get pizza. we might have ordered one…or five…too many! this was actually the best night of the whole trip. o was in bed and the wine & family stories were flowing. carter and i even snuck away with his cousins to a local bar, the well, in town. the pooping pig wasn’t invited.)
(trying to wear o out for the flight home…it didn’t work!)
i hope you had a wonderfully relaxing and delicious holiday!
Hi! I’ve been thinking of you all weekend. Great post! OMG -her boots are ADORABLE. Looks like you all had a great trip.
Target, baby! Thanks for your thoughts…we had a really, really nice time. So good to get a change of scenery, especially one as beautiful as the Berkshires, plus some quality family time. Just wish I had an extra stomach so I could’ve eaten more!
Wow — looks like such a wonderful getaway! So glad you got out for some “adult” time. 🙂 And bundled-up O is too adorable. Can’t wait to see y’all soon!
Wish I could have been there but at least I got to video chat!!
It was so neat talking with you! You and Chris were certainly missed. Be thankful the pooping pig didn’t make it to Amsterdam!
